THE BRITISH COUNCIL

Hours : 9 am – 1 pm Monday – Friday, 4 – 6 pm Tuesday and Thursday, 9 am – 12 noon Saturday.

Anyone may join the council, upon producing a passport or identity card and payment of a small fee, and have access to excellent 18,000 volume library, some films and records. The council does not give lessons but maintains a list of available English teachers, also has an extensive collection of teaching guides.

CENTRE CULTUREL FRANCAIS ( PUSAT KEBUDAYAAN PERANCIS )

Hours : 10 am – 1 pm, 4 – 7 pm. Monday – Friday, 8 am – 1 pm Saturday.

Open to all upon payment of small one-time fee. A library of 4,000 volumes, records, films and slides to lend to individual and organizations. French films ( mostly with English sub-titles ) shown on Tuesday and Thursday. At 5 pm and 7:30 pm, open to members and non-members. Monthly programs available at the centre or mailed upon request. French lessons, using audio-visual technique, are offered.

GOETHE INSTITUTE ( YAYASAN KEBUDAYAAN JERMAN

Hours : 9 am – 1 pm Monday – Friday, 4 – 6 pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Anyone may join without fee by establishing identification by passport or identity card and having an Indonesian address. There is a 5,050 volume library, films and records. Monthly bulletins ( in German and Dutch ) with schedules of events, lectures, films, and special activities for children. Series of language lessons given twice yearly.

INDONESIAN – AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER

The LIA, a bi-national friendship society, offers a wide range of cultural and educational activities, including : Indonesian and English language instruction ( LIA will assist in securing tutors for those unable to enroll in regular classes ), concerts, exhibits, films, lectures, gamelan and angklung orchestras, choirs. The 10.000 volume bi-lingual library, which includes about 300 books on Indonesia and a separate reference room, is open to the public, but Lembaga membership is required to check out materials. Also available are records, tapes and periodicals. Annual memberships on individual, family or company basis.

TAMAN ISMAIL MARZUKI ( JAKARTA ARTS CENTER )

Complex of theaters, exhibition halls and galleries for the visual and performing arts, offering a performance almost every night. Monthly program bulletin available at box office, various shops and hotels, arrange through box office to have it mailed to your home. Programs especially for children are given every Sunday morning. On Saturday evening, 7 to 9 pm, there are performances of traditional music and dancing for general public, free of charge. Tickets for other programs can be purchased in advance at box office, next to star theater. Inquire at office for film club ( kine club ) memberships, two foreign or Indonesian films each month.
